Is it true that colleagues now have several one-time health care insurance coverage opportunities that haven’t been available before?

Yes.

  • If you now have coverage under the CVS Caremark medical plan, you may either:
    • Do nothing and keep the coverage you have now, or
    • Take advantage of a one-time opportunity to drop CVS Caremark medical coverage. If you do, you may enroll in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace by March 31, 2014.
  • If you don’t have coverage because you didn’t enroll for it prior to the start of the current plan year, you may either:
    • Take advantage of a one-time opportunity to enroll in the CVS Caremark medical plan from now until March 31, 2014.
    • Enroll in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace by March 31, 2014.

No qualifying event or change in status is required.

If you choose to enroll in the CVS Caremark medical plan under this one-time opportunity, your coverage will start:

  • January 1, 2014, if you make your election by December 31, 2013.
  • The date you make your election, if you make your election between January 1, 2014, and March 31, 2014.

This one-time change will be allowed only between October 1, 2013, and March 31, 2014, and will be applied on a go-forward basis only. (Remember: To maintain coverage for the next plan year starting June 1, 2014, you will need to enroll again during Annual Enrollment in April 2014.)

To opt out of or enroll in CVS Caremark medical coverage, call myHR at 888-694-7287 (888-MYHR-CVS) and select option 2 for Health and Welfare. Or make your change online through myHR.

Tools to Help You Decide

Don’t forget to use these helpful, easy-to-use tools when you enroll on myHR:

If you want to… Do this… What you’ll find
Know what you’ve spent on health care premiums for yourself and your family while you've been enrolled in CVS Caremark health coverage. Select Review your current health care costs to view the Health Care Cost Summary.

Note: This tool isn't available to colleagues enrolling for CVS Caremark benefits for the first time, but will be available as you start using services.
  • Your medical premiums – and what the plan has paid – for prescription drug and dental services while you've been enrolled in CVS Caremark health coverage.
  • Your total paycheck deductions for medical/prescription drug and dental coverage.
Avoid paying too much by enrolling in the wrong medical plan option. Select Compare and project total costs to use the Medical Expense Estimator tool. A tool that helps you choose your medical plan option by projecting and comparing your estimated total annual costs (paycheck costs plus out-of-pocket expenses) for up to three 2013/2014 medical/prescription drug options that you select. Projections are based on the services used by you and your family (if you're currently enrolled in CVS Caremark medical plan option) as well as the services you expect to use during the plan year.

Important! Keep in mind that this tool is an estimator – not a calculator. While it's very helpful for most people, the tool can't account for all medical conditions and situations. For example, the tool does not calculate the additional cost of specialty medications – which can be much higher than brand formulary medications.
Learn how coverage works for the available medical plan options. Select See coverage details to view Summaries of Benefits Coverage. Summaries of Benefits Coverage that show you how each available option works and how it covers expenses.
Make sure your doctors are in the network of a plan you’re considering. Select Find doctors in your plan to use the Find a Doctor tool. A tool that helps you:
  • See if the doctors and hospitals you use are in the network of a plan you’re considering.
  • Find in-network providers in your current plan.
Make sure you don’t contribute too much – or too little – to a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and risk losing money. Select Add up eligible health care expenses to use the Health Care FSA Estimator. A tool that adds up out-of-pocket health care expenses that qualify for reimbursement under the Health Care FSA.
Make sure you don’t contribute too much – or too little – to a Dependent Care FSA and risk losing money. Select Add up eligible dependent care expenses to use the Dependent Care FSA Estimator. A tool that adds up out-of-pocket dependent care expenses that qualify for reimbursement under the Dependent Care FSA.
Purchase only the amount of life insurance coverage you need. Select the Life Insurance Estimator. A tool that helps you see how much money your beneficiaries would need if you were to die.

Enrolling for Voluntary Benefits

To sign up for Aflac Supplemental Plans, the Legal Services Plan and/or Long Term Care during your enrollment period:

  • Go to myHR.
  • Enroll for your health and welfare benefits.
  • Once you reach the Submitted Successfully page, you’ll find direct links to the websites where you can enroll for the voluntary benefits plans.
  • Select the appropriate link(s) and enroll!

Do I need to enroll, and what happens if I don’t?

If you don’t enroll for CVS Caremark benefits by your enrollment deadline, here’s what will happen:

  • If you’re newly eligible for CVS Caremark benefits: You’ll receive the following CVS Caremark coverage only: Short-Term Disability, Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, Business Travel Accident and LifeScope For You coverage. In most cases, you’ll need to wait until the next Annual Enrollment period to enroll for other coverage, unless you have a “qualifying event” (see below).
    • Attention Hawaii colleagues: In addition, you’ll be automatically enrolled in individual coverage through the HMA Hawaii PPO with the Value Formulary for your prescription drug coverage.
  • If you’ve had a qualifying event (see below): You and your covered family members will continue to be enrolled in your current benefits (as long as these family members are still eligible for coverage).

This coverage may—or may not—meet your needs. And it will stay in effect from the date your participation begins through the end of the plan year (May 31, 2014). IRS rules won’t let you change your coverage until the next Annual Enrollment period—unless you have a qualifying event during the year, such as marriage, divorce, a change in job status, birth or adoption of a child or the gain or loss of coverage.

Exception: As part of health care reform and new requirements that go into effect in January, 2014, colleagues and their dependents have a one-time opportunity to:

  • Drop CVS Caremark medical coverage and enroll in coverage through a government-sponsored health care exchange starting January 1, 2014, or
  • Enroll in the CVS Caremark medical plan on or after January 1, 2014, if they did not choose to elect coverage prior to the beginning of the plan year.

No qualifying event or change in status is required.

This one-time change will be allowed only during the 2013/2014 plan year (June 1, 2013 – May 31, 2014) and will be applied on a go-forward basis only.

What if I enroll and change my mind?

When you enroll for CVS Caremark benefits as a newly eligible colleague or because you’ve had a qualifying event, you have only one opportunity during your enrollment period to make your choices. You cannot resubmit different elections if you change your mind. So be sure to review your choices carefully before you submit them on myHR.

What to Expect After You Enroll

Immediately Afterward

  • If you have an email address on file, you’ll get an email confirmation within 30 minutes of completing your enrollment on myHR. The email will confirm that you completed your enrollment only; it won’t include your actual benefit elections.

Tip: To get a record of your benefit elections for 2013/2014, follow the prompts and print out a confirmation when you complete your enrollment on myHR.

Shortly After Your Enrollment Period Ends

  • Look for a confirmation statement that summarizes your 2013/2014 elections. You’ll get a paper confirmation mailed to your home address after your enrollment period ends – whether or not you made elections for 2013/2014 coverage.
  • Look for new member ID cards in your home mailbox (as applicable).

Do We Have Your Email Address?

If you don’t have a Company email address, you can still get confirmations and other important benefits information by email when possible. How? Simply by providing your preferred email address.

Just log on to myHR and select Your Profile to update your personal information to include your personal email address.
